IMO we would have seen a lot of ugliness and fear in the national mood anyway, regardless of who won, because of the economic collapse. There still would have been a lot of unease, a lot of anger, a lot of fear.

The election of the first black POTUS and the mainstreaming of irrational rhetoric is also churning out a lot of stuff though. There wouldn’t have been a similar nirther movement about McCain, for example.
