re: #69 PhillyPretzel

I have been trying to get my dad to do the same for his house.

With Irene, the whole “power required for the sump pump issue” became important (it was less so for Sandy) but then with Sandy, the whole “furnace may be natural gas but it doesn’t do much if the fans won’t run” aspect I think finally tipped the balance.

I checked it out when I was home, and it wasn’t too bad. Kind of big and ugly but that’s what the side of the house is for, and the neighbors won’t complain because it means they will be able to run an extension cord instead of scrambling to find gas. It ended up being cheaper than Dad had originally thought it would be too.
