Contemporary accounts describe his voice as surprisingly high-pitched and not exactly commanding. But then so is Willie Nelson’s. You have the right tune and lyrics, you don’t have to be Waylon Jennings.

I have no problem with Daniel Day-Lewis’s take. Reedy, high-pitched, but commanding, I thought he matched what had been described by Lincoln’s contemporaries.
