The JPost article in this commented on the unusually large number of mortar shells in the shipment, asking whether this indicated that Hezbollah plans to make greater use of mortars in any future conflict. 120mm mortars are relatively short range weapons (10 km at the outside) so this is not a threat to Israeli cities. What else they are planning is anyone’s guess.

The mortars might be used as a defensive weapon, in the event of an IDF ground attack into southern Lebanon. Pop and go tactics.
