I thought it was a felony under federal law —now I’m confused

Question on a federal background check authorization form:

Have you ever been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?

Being under indictment or being convicted of any felony also won’t allow you to purchase a firearm (assuming that you have to go through a federal background check, private dealers usually aren’t required to perform one)
