The charge that Hitler was a leftie is very popular with the right-wing, for obvious reasons. It’s especially popular among those who lean libertarian. You can find that case argued going back to Hayek’s “Road to Serfdom”.

It’s done because there are some conservatives out there who refuse to think their side can do any wrong. And I will throw a bone here, I see liberals do it too and it bothers me too but I guess the Nazi one bothers me most as someone who had family killed by them and thus I don’t like my ideology of being left of center being attributed to the Third Reich.
