They’re already built it’s just a proposed upgrade to fill in the fighter gap for air to air engagements. The idea being they would fly into the area ripple fire their AIM-180 AMRAAMs at enemy aircraft then turn and burn their way out of the theater since no fighter could keep up with them at sustained speeds at Mach 2.2.
