By having the UN that is open even to people who don’t agree with us 100% we can make it easier to be “frenemies” with China given that we have massive amounts of trade with them combined with massive problems with their government styles.

Also it makes it possible for us to work alongside nations like China and Russia to take on the not just authoritative but out and out crazy nations like North Korea since it would be impossible for us to make truly effective economic sanctions against them without the support of more than just the democratic nations in the world.

Part of the justification for Nixon and subsequent US Prezs visiting and encouraging trade with China is a predicted democratic ‘forcing’ through the global economy and an increase in civil liberties.
