OK, I stand corrected. My understanding was that at one time anyway, they had IE so intertwined with the whole system that it was like Safari, Finder, and Spotlight all being so bound up together that if you trashed Safari, you’d bring down the whole shebang. (I wish you could trash Spotlight, actually!)
That was true up to IE3 or 4, when the EU took M$oft to court for monopolistic practices. Thereafter, they made IE more standalone and optional for users.
