Without the John Barry score, not sure a remake could be as good.
The ending of the original is designed to appeal to American’s religiosity. Sure, one can invent a “hell” all one wants, in a movie. I was more disappointed in the outcome for the protagonists.
If I was going to do a remake of The Black Hole, I’d just prefer to re-use the John Barry score instead of going with a new soundtrack. Yeah, the ending was….weird. On the other hand, going with a scientifically-accurate ending would be quite the downer and generally speaking, audiences typically prefer an uplifting ending. A good remake would probably have to be something within the sci-fi/horror genre.
