Personally, I think the genie is out of the bag on this one. In a world of smart everything, somebody is watching you at least online. The real battle is over accountability and transparency. In other words, the right to know who is watching you and the ability to hold them to account for abuses or negligence. But that’s something that requires actually buttonholing members of Congress and coming up with something that resembles a proposal.

Dudebros don’t want to create the necessary coalition for real changes on privacy issues. It means talking about racial profiling, stalking and domestic violence issues, corporate accountability for stored data, and other such measures. That means talking to the Obama coalition who has deeper worries than cell phone batteries and drones.
