As I noted downstairs, September 21 marked the end of Ramadan. One of the would-be attackers - not sure which - mentioned that he had originally planned to act on 9.11, but switched the date to the 20th to mark this date, which apparently has some special significance. Eid begins immediately following Ramadan, as well.

I don’t think the events are linked in any way other than perhaps being tied to the Islamic calendar.

The Denver case, which is unlinked, could have made the investigators in the lone wolf cases nervous, they could have decided to spring the traps before their suspects balked.
