re: #682 hazzyday

Yah Gun safety can not be reinforced enough whenever guns are used or talked about. People think there’s not a round in the chamber and skip checking it. It’s the first thing I had to do as a seven year old whenever I picked up a shotgun. Check and see if the gun was loaded. Second thing was never wave the gun around and point the barrel at people. Third thing was never cheat on the trigger and pre cock the gun. Forth thing was how to climb over a fence with a loaded gun.

During one training class we were learning techniques to disarm an assailant. On the train academy grounds unless on the range all weapons where unloaded. For the demonstration I was the bad gun using a real gun with no firing pin, I was to point it at the instructors head about 6 inches away and he would defeat the threat.

He takes the training weapon, clears it and hands, it too me. At that point I clear it again he habit is so ingrained. He stops the drill and tells the class that is what anyones reaction should be. Clear The Weapon.

Of course then he “accuses” me of not trusting him! I laughed and said I don’t trust myself that much.
