re: #673 rightside

lol, 26 years later, and I came close enough for govt work.

Tell you the truth, in all this confusion, I kinda lost count myself.

But being this is a 44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow youe head clean off, you have to ask yourself one question.

Do I feel lucky?

Well, do ya, punk?

The hilarious thing is, through most of the movie, Eastwood was using a S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum. The reason was that at the time, the big .44 had never been used in a movie, and the effects departments (and Stembridge Gun Rentals) had never made up any theatrical blanks for the caliber, or for .44 Special. The .41 could use .38-40 Winchester 3/4 load blanks, that were already around. Why? Because John Wayne used a .38-40 WCF caliber Colt Peacemaker in his movies, going back to the Three Mesquiteers “B’s in the 1930s. As such, a stock of ready-made-up rounds was “in the pipeline”, so to speak.

BTW, at that time, the standard service pistol of San Francisco PD uniform division was the S&W M-58 “Military & Police” fixed-sight .41 Magnum. It was adopted in 1969-70 as a result of the “Zodiac” killing spree- that was the basis for the story of Dirty Harry.
