I have a 30-year-old KitchenAid mixer. I was going to replace it, but then I read some online reviews and I found out that on the newer models, all they did was install a larger bowl, but kept the same motor, so if you try and mix a really large batch of dough it will overheat and stall out. Oh, and their mixers are all made in China, the one that I have was made in the USA.

They do make some models with the larger motor and metal gearing… you just need to make sure you don’t buy them from WalMart. They cut costs on the ones they sell to WalMart by using plastic gears and gear box housings.

I have a KitchenAid Pro mixer that I bought 5 years ago directly from KitchenAid, and that thing will chew through a huge batch of sourdough bread. I’ve never had it stall or slow down.
