I lived in Miami for ten years. I assure you that there is intense rivalry and jealousy among Hispanic groups. Cubans despise Puerto Ricans, for example, and vice versa. Sotomayor is popular only among Puerto Ricans. That’s it.

I don’t agree. A Hispanic elevated to a position of great power as this has to make all Hispanics proud regardless of any rivalry.

Bad analogy, but here goes: Muslim sects war with one another, yet support each other in many ways.
