Charles, I’d vote for opt-out.

Stopped on the way home and voted in the Illinois primary. Depressing to see the number of folks requesting Republican ballots. Decent number of folks there but it was moving fairly quickly.

OT, got a phone call today from folks claiming to be the US Treasury Dept. (gave name, badge number). Said I owed significant money for 2014 taxes and if I didn’t deal with it immediately I’d be arrested. When I got done laughing (which didn’t go over well) the threats of arrest were repeated. Informed the person I’d be ready for the arresting officers as soon as I called the police and IRS. Note that I’ve never been contacted by the IRS for any problem, so immediately the whole thing was fishy. Person said the call was being recorded and said that I should go ahead and call the police and IRS and threatened arrest yet again. I laughed and hung up.

Called the IRS/Treasury dept and got about a sentence into the explanation when I was informed it was a scam. But went on to the IRS and Treasury web sites and filed a report. Then I called the US Attorney in New York (call came from a NY area code). Person there responded that they already had a ton of complaints but I was welcome to file another.

So now the scammers are impersonating federal officers. Please warn any elderly relatives who might be too trusting; the threats of arrest might scare some folks into falling for the scam.
