Like several other southern states, Virginia allows large religious organizations to form their own police forces, with full legal authority within their jurisdictional limits. I have been waiting for the Temple of Satan to exercise its consequent right to do so, if only to see the uniforms they are likely to come up with.

I was wondering on that very point when reading the (full) article: what, precise, jurisdictional powers a University PD has in Virginia. I know regulations vary from state to state: in some places “campus police” have little more legal status than just hired rent-a-cops: elsewhere (yes, mainly in the South), they are empowered just as any other (municipal/county/state) LE agency.

But yeah, the uniforms for the “Temple Of Satan PD” would likely be AWESOME….
