Because a number of reality shows do multiple “seasons” in a year.

They should call them “series” like British TV shows and Japanese anime. That makes more sense in my mind. As an Old, a TV season to me means “a television program that started in September and concluded in May.” You know, as God intended it to be. These new things should be called “series.”
