I think some things are inherent genetically and can’t be changed. And guys tend not to respect you if you chase them. Not good to look too easy.

Not only genetics, but good-old-fashioned reverse psychology as well - if something seems difficult to obtain, people (rightly or wrongly) think it’s more valuable or worth having. This dynamic even plays out in the job market, e.g. those idiotic “help wanted” ads that said the unemployed need not apply (the apparent “logic” being that, if no other company wants you at the moment, neither do we).
