I think sagehen is not disagreeing with that. Mrs. FBW and I were having this very discussion yesterday - children who grow up in abusive homes often go on to abuse their own families. But why? Is it because of what they learn in an abusive home? Or because the abuse causes an anger in them they can lose control over? Or is that uncontrollable anger inherited?

Or, since Nature seems to abhor ‘Either/Or’ explanations, is it a combination of the above?
