Iām all for taking the NRAās own safety rules and making them laws with penalties.
I have not read through the thread yet and i know im a one trick pony on this,
None of these great and logical ideas will ever fly - there will never be enough votes or support for licenses, insurance, ābanās, etc.
what has a chance, and maybe only a 1% chance as someone here (i cant remember who) pointed out to me is responsibility/accountability. the same way it applies to every other thing in life.
yes - use the NRAās message because itās simple: Control your weapon at all times - thatās all thatās needed
Control means holding, handling, storing, lending, selling (who and how you sell to is YOUR responsibility), carrying, brandishing, etc.
We may have hit a point where a schism starts to show.
The mostly conscientious, responsible gun owners have let the nutters and the crazies be the face of all gun owners.
Up to now it really hasnt hurt their cause much.
This is odd because the nutters and crazies so far were all mass shooters.
Somehow the gun lobby has threaded the needle that ātheyā arent us.
Now theyāve got these two āparentsā who didnāt pull a trigger and are way more like the gun owning masses. And are clearly not nuts. Maybe not reasonable, but certainly āunderstandableā. (ok up to ādonāt get caught LOLā)
Maybe now the rest of gun owners will see that holding people like these two responsible for what they did has absolutely no effect on everyone elseās ownership or behavior and never would. just like arresting a DUI has no effect on my or my license or my driving.
and if they start to cull out the demonstrably irresponsible and the truly dangerous the rest of us can go about our gun toting lives more or less unharassed.
