re: #761 Fozzie Bear

Purposely causing a constitutional crisis. Using the unitary executive, and not challenging the inevitable effort to impeach that would result. Falling on the sword, so to speak.

Er, and then what happens? How does that upend the grill?

I would just direct the executive to continue paying the bills, per section 4 of the 14th, and veto the bill. That ought to do it.

Again: how would that upend the grill? The most likely outcome, I think, is the rather-conservative court rules that you can’t do that, the bonds you issued already are okay, but we’re right back at default, with you out of office.

If they did accept it, of course, then great, that’s over— except I’m sure the enraged GOP would then block all legislation.

To me, upending the grill means changing our system of government, but what your’e suggesting comes nowhere close to it. It strikes me as what someone would do if they were president and most concerned with their own ethical standing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that; I think that’s a very defensible way to act.
