Just tell them you believe in Jury Nullification and they’ll kick you off. Or that you think minimum sentencing guidelines are unconstitutional.

In my experience, the surest way to get out of jury duty is to show up when required, pay attention, and think to yourself that it would be kinda neat to be on a jury just once in your life - part of the American experience and what-not. There’s no way they’ll let you on.

Last time I was summoned, the case was a sexual assault charge where the crux of the biscuit was going to be whether or not consent was withdrawn at some point during the procedings. During voir dire the public defender was asking potential jurors all sorts of ridiculous questions about their favorite TV show and other irrelevant things. I really wanted to ask her what anybody’s favorite TV show had to do with the price of tea in China, but I figured it would piss off the judge or something.
