re: #711 reine.de.tout

We’ve got a couple bridges like that up here in the NYC metro area - particularly the Pulaski Skyway, Outerbridge Crossing and the Goethals Bridge. The Goethals is the worst of the three, and it’s scheduled to be replaced sometime soon (depends on when the Port Authority gets around to actually putting shovels in the ground).

It’s extremely narrow, bad sightlines, and can cause jitters in good weather - so when there’s rain, let alone snow, you have white knuckle driving, particularly when there’s 18-wheelers around.

The Pulaski would top the Goethals, except that they haven’t allowed truck traffic in years (the bridge is obsolete and can’t handle the weight). Also, the Pulaski is unique in that they’ve got on and off ramps from the left lane in the middle of the span (without sufficient space to accelerate or turn out).

All three lack breakdown lanes as well.
