The Navy is holding back on doing shock tests and are concerned about the readiness of the EMALS launchers - they also are concerned about the ability repair while underway.

Yeah, it’s called teething problems and new systems have that problem. We had it with the F-117. We had it with the F-22 and F-35. We had it with the B-2 (and B-1) and even the B-52s… every new system had limitations and problems.

But these problems get magnified when you’re talking about $12 billion for a single piece of equipment (a ship).

Trump thinks that switching to steam solves the problem.

It doesn’t. The ship was designed around the EMALS system freeing up space to do other things, and if you put steam back on the agenda, then you’ve got to reallocate space, redesign entire spaces, and that adds.. *back of the envelope calculations* - billions to the costs of each of the ships.

Yeah, this is the same Trump that said that he saved money on the AF1 deal (he didn’t) and that our stealth planes are invisible (they aren’t).
