Actually the “Betray-Us” ad seriously backfired on moveon.org. It went way too far, and they lost a lot of their support among liberals because of it.

I agree, and the GOP was politically savvy to make it into a national political issue where Congressional Democrats were forced to comment on a PAC’s advertising. It would be great to see Dems successfully do the same — forcing the GOP to own or repudiate Right Wing PAC ads and positions — but they just aren’t as proficient at the manufactured outrage game.
