re: #686 Iron Fist Gee Iron Fist, never knew you felt that way. See I remember things a little differently that you do: I remember the Bay of Pigs being an “invasion” cooked up by the CIA, using (mostly) ex-pat Cubans which depended on US airpower. And that JFK didn’t find out about it until it was too late to stop it, but also didn’t send in our Air Force or Navy Air because, under International law that would have been the same as declaring war on Cuba - I’m not saying that would have been a Bad Thing, but JFK apparently was sooo newly installed as POTUS he wasn’t looking to start a war that the CIA started (oh and btw, in one of Nixon’s memoirs he recalled thinking the CIA was out of it’s mind for planning the Bay of Pigs, but also didn’t think anything would come of the planning). Of course this was after he resigned the Presidency so Nixon may have been trying to burnish his image for history’s sake. As for the USSR, I remember the fear I felt when a US Navy Destroyer stopped the Soviet Freighter with missile shaped containers on deck and it turned around and there was no nuclear war - and I was proud of the Navy and of JFK for standing up to the Soviet Union. Vietnam I’ll grant you - it was STUPID in the extreme, but JFK was SO unpopular that he felt he needed to go to Texas to shore up his support for his re-election. He was not the “popular” figure that the MSM makes him out to be until AFTER he was murdered.
And,like most Americans, I don’t exactly appreciate anyone trying to murder a duly elected POTUS.
