I’m really not following you at all. What discussion ends when you hang a label on the other side? This protest, representing a far fringe, how does this fit into what you’re saying?

The mutual rational discussion from opposite sides of the issue at hand ends. When you dismiss the other side with a perjorative, obviously the mind is closed to open consideration of the other side.

Instead of attention on this (LINK EDIT!) for example we have a silly season spectacle.

How about a recent development on the national budget. A very recent headline read that the two sides have agreed on only one thing. There will be no “grand bargain” on taxes, entitlements and spending. There needs to be one.

The new House-Senate panel charged with crafting a long-term budget compromise is apparently aiming low, with leaders on both sides of the Capitol saying Thursday that there will be no so-called “grand bargain.”
