It’s not so much the benefit of the expenses involved, but I think it may be the fact that those who are deported force their relatives who are also here illegally to leave with them (kids/youngster deported means that their folks will go in order to stay with their families). More bang for the buck?

I guess you could make the same argument that by going after the parents, that the kids might be forced to go with them or else leave them with no options other than to fend for themselves.
