“Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Tuesday they will not be questioning Christine Blasey Ford about her sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh later this week. Instead, they are hiring a woman as outside counsel to do it for them,” the HuffPost reports.

im wondering about this
judiciary committee or actually any senate committee

do they do this - hire someone outside to manage an investigation?
cause i assume it’s not just read like a court stenographer reading back

after the basic q’s, which of course the senators will have given to her, this person is going to direct where the questioning goes
she will choose what to follow up on and how
she will be ‘prosecuting’

has this been done?
is there precedent?
