Florida flesh-eating illness cases spike after Hurricane Ian (BBC, four hours ago)
Standing water left over from Hurricane Ian coupled with overwhelmed sewage systems has led to a sharp rise in one form of so-called flesh-eating bacteria. This particular form kills one-in-five people, and has killed twenty-nine people in Lee County, Florida so far.
Health officials there are warning people of the dangers of wading through standing, brackish, or hurricane-flood waters.
