One really interesting aspect of this is the stark contrast between the right wing’s current indifference to Covid and the complete, pants-shitting panic they exhibited over AIDS back in the 80s. For instance, at that time, I was selling cars for an upscale dealer in the DFW area. I lived in an apartment complex that had a pool. Various co-workers kept pestering me for invitations to come over and swim as my guest. I happened to tell them that a guy who lived in the complex was HIV-positive (which was true). One of them asked me if he used the pool. I said he did. I never heard another word about inviting them over to swim. That’s right, the goobers thought you could contract AIDS from swimming in the same pool as someone who had HIV. The same thing happened with the Ebola outbreak in 2014. One guy who had just come from Liberia died of ebola in a DFW hospital and yokel conservatives went apeshit, demanding that President Obama resign and that all Africans be expelled immediately.
