Well, Nixon really was quite progressive. The EPA, his idea for healthcare, the reformation of the Indian bureau, etc. I really feel most of his foul-ups came from personal demons— like intense paranoia— and that intellectually he was a far-seeing dude.

Odd that in the hyper-partisan politics of today’s U.S., most forget that it was a Republican who created the national park system, a Republican who ordered the 101st Airborne into Little Rock to enforce the directive to integrate Central Hight School and a Republican who created the EPA. Of cousre, no Republican would have a prayer of getting the nomination today on those platforms.
