TBH I think the First Lady/First Dude thing is an anachronism that should really go away, but if we’re going to have them, I guess they get to express their opinions however they see fit.

Agreed, but they have no official office, no official power*, and no constitutional role in government. I don’t know what you’d call the spouse of the president otherwise.

*Although recent Democratic first ladies Hillary Clinton and (especially) Michelle Obama do seem to have an incredible ability to provoke fits of rage among right wingers.
