My hope is that you’re right.

My fear is that human beings may be hard-wired to categorize themselves, whereupon ‘the strong do what they can and the weak bear what they must’. My fear is that, at our present knowledge of human nature, if racial bigotry stops—by no means a sure thing—, other criteria for bigotry will be established.

That’s exactly what I think too. Xenophobia and a certain need to classify groups as ‘us’ vs ‘them’ seem to be innate to the human condition, IMO. If we got rid of the category of race as an excuse for bigotry, we would find or invent another, i fear
