There is more than a grain of truth. I haven’t been able to figure out exactly how the South African government wants to decide which farms to expropriate, but there has been a long term goal to return something like 30% of farmland to blacks on the theory the whites originally swiped it from them. The killing part seems like Trump is conflating it with the history of land expropriation in Zimbabwe, with an extra bit of drama thrown in.

From what I can tell, and I’m not sure it’s accurate given the sources I was looking at, it seems to be targeted at farms of more than 25,000 acres.
