Now what’s interesting to me is that apparently, it was VP Pence that gave the order to activate the National Guard - not Trump. Also, this Department of Defense statement explicitly excludes Trump - while mentioning Pence, Pelosi, McConnell, and Hoyer by name: defense.gov

Of course, I’ve seen chatter about the cabinet mulling the 25th Amendment. But I was unaware that the Vice President had the authority, or power, to activate the National Guard; I always assumed that was purely at the prerogative of the POTUS.

So….did Pence simply exceed his authority? Has Trump been sidelined or something? Is Pence saying (more or less), “I’m POTUS now because Trump has gone straight out of his mind”?
