It’s tradition that the Prime Minister addresses the media from Downing Street outside Number Ten. Also, it’s an apt metaphor, with him getting absolutely soaked.

There was a short gap in the rain, they set up the podium and Sunak came out of Number 10 and began his suicide note by wittering on about how much good the Conservatives had done for the nation over the past few years. The heavy rain started again, “giein’ it pelters” as they would say in my old home town. No time for an umbrella, no chance of breaking off and doing it again so eventually he got to the good bit and told us what we already knew, that this Parliamentary session was toast and the election was going to be in early July.

The visuals probably lost the Tories another ten seats in the upcoming slaughter.
