I agree with u only half way through your argument. Yes, western civilization matured not to burn down things but I am not sure if it had anything to do with Luther or not. We’re good not because of what god told us but because we can be good and tend to be good. Our moral code has nothing to do with religious beliefs.

Bull. Every society’s moral code is shaped by their belief system. You are ignorant.

Overall we tend to be good because cooperation leads to a better life. It’s the major downfall of Extreme Libertarians like L. Neil Smith. If you are an atheist then you have to belief that a society’s religion codifies it’s belief system. If you have Faith you think it is the other way around. You seem to ignore the rational basics of sociology.

The problem with atheism is that it doesn’t have a a belief system that has penalties for acting in a manner contrary to the best practices for a society. Which you can do and not break the law…unless you make the law so tight that any free will is virtually impossible.
