re: #71 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut

Yet another log on the pile of “Food Stamps are something that Republican districts benefit from more”

bloomberg.com

The following is a fucking lie, because I frequent a supermarket that is used by a lot of food stamp recipients and I’ve never seen this (plus, the parking lot is full of not Cadillacs, but older cars, like mine, which is 16 yrs old):

“Tim Charlton, pastor of the Sugar Camp Baptist Church in Booneville, said he’s seen food stamp recipients in checkout lines with 10 or more cases of Pepsi in their carts. People then sell the soda at a discount to others and use the cash to pay other bills or for drugs, he said.”

Yes, I’ve seen people buying mfg’d boxed and frozen food, and other items I wouldn’t particularly buy, but that isn’t because they’re “gaming” the system, it’s because they either don’t have any nutrition knowledge or they simply can’t cook from scratch.

But the Rs in NC are getting their way in cutting off food stamps (at least for a while) since some have been waiting months for their benefits because the computer system implemented to “speed things up” called NC Fast is not working. The food banks are overwhelmed because of this delay. Even this report has it wrong, because my g-son has not received any for him and his child since 6/15, even though he has been recertified: projects.newsobserver.com I have spent every cent of cash I have left from my SS check on groceries and it’s getting close to desperation time as any “reserves” I had built up over time are being decimated fast.
