The miscommunication lies in the fact, that when one writes something like this, one should think about the “lowest common denominator”, who will misinterpret such things despite the text clearly implying it’s just a hypothetical.

It’s also the way the post was presented graphically. Generally, at KOS, statements inside the little orange boxes are direct quotes from an outside source. Those hypothetical polls were presented that way, whether accidentally or purposefully to “miscommunicate.”
