I think what he means is that they’d let in people who hate pineapple on pizza if it would get them extra votes. There’s a chunk of Republcans that are straight up anti-semitic, but most of the party just accepts it because it means more power. It’s probably just me, but the way I read his comment is that it’s not apologizing for the GOP so much as explaining why you will never get the them to abandon one of their hate groups.
