A thought that may be obvious, but I think is interesting. You’ve heard something like: if someone says 2 + 2 = 5 they are wrong. But if they say 2 + 2 = 173, they are not wrong, they are playing by a completely different set of rules. Perhaps this would describe the liberals and conservatives, at least those who are engaged as opposed to tradition, etc…

Yes, very interesting, and one of the reasons for the deep, deep divide between people who ostensibly have so much in common. There’s a particular example that won’t quite come to mind right now, but I’ll go jog my memory on the Google and be back shortly.
