re: #69 HappyWarrior
Again, neither Timothy nor I said it was okay. Iām of German descent for fuck sake. My Dadās grandfather was literally born in Germany. Iām merely saying that German-Americans did not have as bad as the Japanese-Americans in WWII. My dadās grandfather was able to serve on the WWII rationing board in Pittsburgh during the war. If he had been Japanese born, he wouldnāt have been able to do that. Youāre correct that German-Americans were in fact interned and VB was incorrect to say they were not but they were not at the same rate of Japanese-Americans there definitely was racism to why the Japanese were held.
I think weāre going past each otherās points.
I fully agree and acknowledge that as a group German-Americans did not have it nearly as bad as Japanese-Americans during WW2.
My position was that some did.
I take certain moral positions that I will not more on. Interning any number of citizens not shown to be criminals or security threats to me is immoral and un-Constitutional.
Hence my statement of āwell, 10%.ā
It is similar to my stance on the death penalty, not now, not ever. āWell, we hardly ever kill an innocent personā is a non-starter argument to me. At least for now, few Muslims or Hispanics (relative to the numbers of all of them) have been harassed by the government (hence my using those groups as another example).
Iām willing to let this whole discussion pass though, as my only point was that the internment order has never been revoked and I expect the GOP to put it to use.
