Given the distribution of parties in the south before Nixon (more or less), MLK may very well have been a Republican. So what? So was Lincoln. Things have changed.

MLK Sr was a Republican, because Eisenhower and Nelson Rockefeller.
MLK Jr was a Democrat, because Goldwater and LBJ.
