Korea was not meaningless. To have simply let the Norks conquer South Korea would have done the reputation of the USA and the UN intolerable damage. Both would have looked weak and incapable of stopping Communist aggression. Yes, tens of thousands of Americans died to prove were not weak, but that price was worth paying in my opinion.
