I chalk that up to an inferiority complex produced by all those beautiful Hollywood people being so lefty.

The inferiority complex goes back farther than that: America had an inferiority complex about anything cultural or intellectual because we were so completely overshadowed by Europe in that respect until the second half of the XXth century.

One one hand, I enjoy America’s rootsy, folksy, self-educated approach, but the current atmosphere of a total disregard for science and any culture above the level of NASCAR is somewhat disturbing.

And just as I appreciate America’s emphasis on individual initiative and responsibility, we seem to totally neglect any sense of respect for others, especialy if those “others” are of another race, religion or political point of view.

And our fixation on Free Market ignores the communal effort that goes into even the most individual success stories.
