Proxy Data - pick a proxy, which just means ‘substitute’ when the thing you care about is difficult or impossible to measure, but something else is much more available.

So Ludwig is using proxy data as proof of AGW? Really? And we are supposed to jump on the bandwagon with ‘substitute’ data?
