But the wall? No, I expected it to still be there when I died either of old age or WWIII. The Soviet Union was in decline, but the Ottoman Turks held on in worse shape for centuries by simple brutality, When the East German guards did not open fire but instead opened the gates on 9 November? That was a moment no one really expected.
That’s one of the reasons why I say that The World War started on 28 June 1914 and ended 9 November 1989…
Gotcha. Agree about WWI. One long almost century long war. There are times to me where it feels like the Cold War has resumed again.
